Purple Velvet

This piece is part of a new direction my work seems to be taking. The idea is to have a necklace which is adjustable to suit a range of people and worn at different lengths. The lampwork beads have been made in my home studio with American glass, rolled in a purple frit which is no longer available and fine silver melted into the surface which makes each bead completely different and unique. All the lampwork beads have been annealed to ensure that they are strengthened for many years of wear. Then they have been carefully strung on waxed cotton with sterling silver beads. This set wouldn’t be complete without a bonus pair of funky earrings to go with it.

The technical stuff: Measuring 28 1/8 inches in length (72cm) it is designed to be slipped over your head as the internal circumference is 27 inches (68cm). The largest of the focals measures 1/2 inch in diameter (12mm). The bonus earrings measure a total length of 1 1/2 inches (38mm). The set comes gift boxed direct to you.

Care instructions: Whilst each piece goes through an annealing process to strengthen the glass, do take care not to drop them. It can be easily cleaned with a polishing cloth and recommended that you wipe over the metal after wear to stop tarnishing. The waxed cotton can be washed in soapy water as well if need be.
