Curves Tool 101
.[How the hell does she get those colours?].

II often get ppl contacting me on how I manage to get the colours and illustrated look my work has so I decided to put together a very simple tutorial for ppl in regards to poser lighting and the Photoshop curves tool, the methods can be applied to any GFX software though.

.[In Poser].

1. GET RID OF THAT HORRIBLE DEFAULT LIGHTING, beat it, kill it, delete it, string it up with piano wire and hang it I don't care just don't use it. =)

2. Use bright lighting, this will get rid the drab lighting, if your poser character has a skin condition then it helps hide it by over exposing the skin. I set my shadows to 1 and my map size to 256 on infinite lights. I'm not what you'd call a guru in regards to lighting, but this is what I use for my work.

3. Alot of the time I take the bump maps off the body because they can be a nightmare to fix up. I leave them on things like the nipples and the lips etc.

4. When I render pictures for postwork, i do them at a large size (2800 x 3400 x 300dpi)

This way, postwork is made a hell of a lot easier because you're working with a bigger surface area and if I happen to get anything printed it's nice and crisp.

.[In Photoshop].

5. Ok open up you picture with Photoshop, and locate your curves tool ( IMAGE menu > ADJUST > CURVES ) the attached tutorial image gives you an example of what to do.

6. By combining different channel curves together you can get some really bizarre FX.

7. Have a play with the hue and saturation along with the colour balance these make tweaking up pictures really quite simple.

Hope everyone can get some use out this, if you have any questions, or want me to write another mini tutorial on anything feel free to harass me!

Roses,
